Vancouver's Metro Council is asking the public to watch a report that shows the average age of men who buy Viagra is more than two years old.
A Metro Council official said the report was published inCanadamagazine in September, but it's not the first time the average age of men has been shown to be as young as two years old.
The Vancouver, B. C.-based city-council group was alerted to the publication and posted the report inon Tuesday.
The council's chief executive, Paul Chiesz, said the Vancouver report was a good example of the importance of keeping up with the latest developments in Canadian sexual health.
"The council's findings are important to Canadians as they continue to deal with the latest developments in sexual health, including the recent reports of cases of men who were either diagnosed with erectile dysfunction or who were seeking treatment to improve their quality of life," said Chiesz.
The Vancouver report came just weeks after the Vancouver government's government agency launched a public consultation with the province of British Columbia to evaluate whether the province's drug regulations were too strict.
Chiesz, however, said the provincial commission would have to conduct an independent review to determine the province's policy.
"The government is a bit slow in this process, but this is something we need to do as soon as we are able to get to the bottom of this," he said.
Chiesz said the review was the second step in his approach to assessing whether the province is too strict on its sexual health regulations.
"The Vancouver report is a good example of what the city-council group can do to help people understand the importance of sexual health and the importance of being aware of the laws and regulations," said Chiesz.
"This is the first time a Metro Council official has been able to review and report on a report that we are seeing in Canada."
The report has been requested by the Vancouver government, who said the Vancouver report was only available to the public and not to health care providers.
"This report is not available to the public and it is not appropriate for health care providers to access this report," Chiesz said.
A Metro Council official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation, said the report was good news for his office.
